Founded in 1911, Clermont Foot 63 started as Stade Clermontois. Its inception was a result of the passion for football among working-class individuals in the Auvergne region of France. The team initially faced many challenges due to lack of funding and poor infrastructure.
The initial years were marked by fluctuating performance levels, with victories being few yet significant. Their first major achievement came when they made it to the Coupe de France final in 1946 only to be beaten by Lille OSC (source).
Throughout its early history, several notable players emerged who helped shape the team's identity including legendary forward Jacques Foix who scored an impressive number of goals for Stade Clermontois in the post-war era.
